The Centro Enzo and Esther Modena was born in 1980 in an appartment on Via Soperga 40, that was made available by Dottor Bruno Modena as a Synagogue and Talmud Torah under the guidance of Rabbi and Mrs Hazan, for the families that lived in the area of the Central Station. Throughout the years many celebrations have taken place: Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, Brit Milahs, and all occasions in the cycle of Jewish life. In a short span of time Centro Enzo and Esther Modena became the point of reference for many young families. In time, they wished to move the Synagogue to the more populated area of Piazza della Repubblica. A new location was found and renovated for the Synagogue, in Via Tenca 10. Today the Synagogue serves as a role model for the whole community of Milan, as its members form a big family that shares every occasion: the Friday night dinners, the Purim masquerade, the Passover Seders, and the weekly Kidush that follows the Shabbat prayers that is prepared by the ladies of the Synagogue. From 2007 the Synagogue is directed by the young and dynamic Rav Mendi and Chani Kaplan.
